Ashley Layman - LCS, Class of 2011

After graduation, Ashley started at Tulsa Community College then transferred to the University of Oklahoma and ultimately to Oklahoma State University where she graduated in December 2015 with a Sports Media degree.

At OU, Layman realized that wasn’t where God wanted her to be. Layman said “I felt like God was calling me to do something else with my life, I just didn’t know what that was at the time... I went into OSU not knowing what I wanted to do until I spoke with an academic advisor. She asked me what I enjoyed doing and what my hobbies were; I told her I like promoting things and talking to people.”

Getting further into the degree, Layman realized how difficult and competitive the sports’ field is. Layman then began volunteering for the high school football team in Stillwater, OK. She stated, “I wanted to do anything I could to add it to my resume.” Through a connection, Layman volunteered for the Tulsa Shock for the 2014 basketball season. At this point, “I knew I needed to do more, so I looked on Hire OSU Grads website for internships and part-time jobs in sports.” Layman came across a job for the Oklahoma City Thunder. She applied online and interviewed for an Entertainment Associate part-time job with the Thunder. Layman began working for the Thunder the 2014-2015 basketball season. In Ashley’s words, “Working for the Thunder was the best experience I’ve ever had.”

Continuing her success, Layman is now the Game Operations Manager for the Oklahoma City Rayo soccer team. According to Layman, “With the experience I have gained, I am able to continue doing what I feel God has called me to do.”
